Hey everyone, McLean and Allison here! As quarantine has become extended for a lot of us we've been making playlists for one another as a way to stay in touch. One of our favorite things about KD is how many impromptu dance parties we have, whether it's in the car or in the house, you can almost always find us blasting our new favorite songs and singing off-key. Because we've been apart for so long we've had to move those dance parties to our daily zoom sessions and we thought we'd share a couple of our favorites with all of you!

1. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
McLean's first pick of the playlist and a timeless bop that everyone loves. I recommend playing this song while you're doing the dishes, vacuuming, or just hanging out with your family. Nothing calms and unifies people like the sound of Stevie Nick's voice and it has quickly become a quarantine staple for me.
2. Break My Heart by Dua Lipa
Another McLean pick here! Dua Lipa has singlehandedly become the anthem of this quarantine for me (and quite honestly has saved pop music with this album) and I would recommend any of the songs off of her newest album (but this is the best one). It's perfect for a run around the neighborhood or a facetime/zoom dance party and you won't regret doing a complete deep dive into her latest album Future Nostalgia.
3. Glitter by BENEE
One of Allison's first picks and honestly a favorite of the entire chapter. Originally we found it on tik tok (yikes we know) and it quickly progressed to being played repeatedly on the speaker we jam to before chapter every Sunday. It's a perfect pick for doing homework or cleaning and we miss belting it in the house on Sunday nights with all of our sisters.
4. Canyon Moon by Harry Styles
A McLean and Allison joint pick and almost a nearly perfect song. This song has everything, including those Fleetwood Mac vibes we love for our dance parties. Our favorite part, however, is the section of the song where Harry repeatedly sings he's going home in beautiful harmony. It reminds us both that we'll be heading home to BSC soon enough and until we see each other again we'll always have our memories on the Hilltop together.
5. Talk Too Much by COIN
A personal favorite of McLean's, this song is by the band COIN who came to E-fest almost 4 years ago! Its been on most of my playlists since that first weekend of Freshmen year and it's honestly the perfect upbeat song for daily shower concerts or belting in the car.
6. Sunday Best by Surfaces
McLean technically picked this song but if given the chance, Allison would have as well. If you don't listen to Surfaces you absolutely should! Their music is upbeat and always reminds me of warm spring days and the beach, and Sunday Best is no exception. This is another chapter favorite and a pre-chapter bop that gets played more often than some would like! (can you tell who gets aux a little too much? spoiler: it's us)
7. City of Angels by 24kGoldn
An Allison pick and honestly a surprisingly good song that McLean had not heard before we wrote this post. It's a pretty edgy song and would be perfect for a run or getting some of that extra quarantine stuck inside energy out! I'm sure before long we'll be reunited and blasting this one in a car with the windows down but until then enjoy this song within the comfort of your own car our house.
8. Mamma Mia by the Mamma Mia 2 Cast
A McLean pick and a special tribute to 2018 recruitment! I used to listen to this almost every single day running errands with my best friend Katie and so when it came time to clean and decorate the house for each night of recruitment the Mamma Mia 2 soundtrack was an instant hit with the entire chapter. Some of my favorite KD and recruitment memories have this song playing in the background and its just a great mood booster for anyone who listens to it.
9. Tattoos Together by LAUV
A joint pick from Allison and McLean and with good reason! We both love LAUV and we actually both attended his concert in Birmingham at Iron City but we had no idea at the time (so he's a pretty special artist to us). This song is from his most recent album and is such a fun tribute to friends who have an instantaneous bond and connection, kind of like our sisterhood.
10. Supalonely by BENEE
Another joint pick from McLean and Allison and another chapter favorite as well! About half of our chapter has tried to learn the dance to this hit with various degrees of success and it also quickly become a pre-chapter favorite before we left campus. While it encapsulates a little bit of how we feel (sigh) we'll be back with our sisters before long and we'll no longer be super lonely!
11. Silhouettes by Colony House
One of Allison's picks and a really good one for anyone listening- no matter what their taste in music is! Colony House actually came to campus last year for our spring concert series and was an instant hit so this song is as much a campus favorite as it a chapter favorite.
12. Landslide by the Dixie Chicks
We actually couldn't pick a Dixie Chicks song ourselves (they're all too good) so we took a poll in our chapter's GroupMe and Landslide won by well.. a landslide. Now we know it's a little bold to put the Dixie Chick's cover of Landslide on the same playlist as Fleetwood Mac's Dreams, but we feel this cover is just as incredible as the original. Our chapter loves the Dixie Chicks and no matter what song you play, you're sure to hear someone yell to turn the volume up!
That's just a small sample of what we've been listening to recently, but we hope you enjoyed a little glimpse into our KD dance parties. This was so much fun to make and we can't wait to be reunited and listening to all of these tunes and many more at Spirit Weekend!
AOT,
Alpha Upsilon
